The refusal, put first rather than last
The reason is not squeamishness and it is worth stating plainly. Somebody signing in as you is somebody holding your enrolment, while the exposure stays entirely with you and the fee goes entirely elsewhere. A house willing to make that trade has priced your enrolment at a single afternoon, and nothing else it says about care or discretion outlives that.
So no password for a proctored sitting is requested, accepted or kept here, and no account of how urgent the situation has become alters it. What remains available is the preparation, which is the better purchase anyway, because what you learn for one paper is still in your possession at the next.
The room, the rules and the rehearsal
Much of what unsettles people on the day is procedural rather than academic. The identity check, the sweep of the desk, the software that wants control of the machine and a clock that will not pause are all rehearsable, and rehearsing them costs an afternoon.

Preparing the content in the proportion tested
Most papers announce their own shape somewhere: how many items come from each unit, printed in the study guide or the syllabus and generally read after the result rather than before the study. That announcement is the plan. Hours follow the items, and the topics carrying two questions are declined without guilt.
An open-book paper is not a gentler paper. It is timed on the assumption that you will rarely need the book, so time spent searching is time not spent answering, and preparation for one is about knowing where things live rather than knowing everything. Preparation runs as its own engagement, quoted apart from any coursework being carried beneath it.
Say which paper, and when
The assessment, the course, the date and whether it is proctored. Reading that and pricing the preparation costs nothing at all.
The weighting becomes a schedule
Hours follow the item counts each category actually carries, and the schedule is agreed before a single evening is spent against it.
You rehearse the whole thing
Timed practice under the real conditions, every answer reasoned through afterward, and the plan narrowing toward whatever keeps going wrong.
Questions put to the house
Could somebody sign in and sit the paper for me?
Not through this house, ever, and there is nothing in it to negotiate over. Anyone accepting that arrangement is putting your enrolment at risk to earn a fee they keep whatever happens afterward. No credential for a proctored sitting is requested, held or used here, and the position is printed before money moves rather than explained after it.
What happens if my connection drops in the middle?
Your program has a written answer to that and it is worth locating before the day rather than during it. Most institutions expect the session to be resumed immediately and the incident reported, and many keep a log the proctoring service itself produces. The policy is read during preparation, so the plan includes what to do in the first sixty seconds rather than a scramble.
Is an open-book examination easier than a closed one?
Rarely, and the assumption is expensive. An open-book paper is usually timed as though the book will not be needed, so an examinee who intends to look things up runs out of clock rather than out of knowledge. Preparation for one concentrates on knowing where each thing sits and on the questions that no amount of searching answers.
There is one week left. Is preparation still worth buying?
Frequently yes, though the plan changes shape rather than merely compressing. With seven days the heaviest two or three categories are worked properly and the rest is left alone deliberately, and you are told what has been left alone rather than allowed to assume it was covered. What cannot be bought in a week is a subject you have never met.
What about a take-home paper with a set window?
That is a different object and it is treated differently. Where a paper is not proctored, not sat under supervision and its conditions permit ordinary academic support, it can be carried like any other graded item, against its rubric and inside its window. Where the instructions say the work must be produced alone and unaided, it is declined, and that answer does not move.
